Metatine

Metatine is a synthetically molecule that is structurally similar to, but chemically different from, other vaping alkaloids. Notably, the manufacturer claims that Metatine is a non-nicotine compound but that vape devices that contain Metatine provide adult users with a strong sense of satisfaction, pleasure and enjoyment that is largely indistinguishable from traditional vape products.

According to Metatine.com, “Since Metatine does not contain nicotine, is not derived from tobacco, and is not a component or part of a tobacco product, it does not fall under the regulatory purview of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products.”

Final Thoughts

Are products like Nixodine, Metatine, and NoNic the future of vaping? Providing the same experience as nicotine while helping to draw a line in the sand between combustible cigarettes and other active ingredient products like vapes would be an enormous breakthrough and public service. It won't be easy to break that link in the minds outside observers, lawmakers and regulators. Years of lobbying, and general cultural shaming in the US will make this an uphill battle.

Transparency, rigorous research, and purity testing are only the foundation. Flipping the script on the tobacco industry and nicotine abstinence zealots will be hard work. But as long as there are adult consumers 21+ seeking smoke and ash free alternatives in the flavors they prefer, there will be an important market for vaping products. 

The US is a long way from matching the UK's National Health Service, which hosts a "Vaping to Quit Smoking" website. But simply recognizing the agency and preferences of adult 21+ consumers seeking products not manufactured by the tobacco industry would be a huge start.
