Vapes on a plane? Holiday travel with your vape made easy!
With the holidays right around the corner, Mi-One Brands thought it would be helpful to inform all of you about the rules and regulations with bringing vapes onboard planes.
Let’s cover exactly how you can travel safely with your vape so you have one less item to worry about this holiday season
Bringing your vape on the plane
There’s no doubt the thought of being pulled aside by TSA or customs is a scary one. The last thing any of us want to do while holiday traveling is get caught up in a situation where we are potentially in trouble for not knowing how to travel with our vape pens.
The following is some basic guidelines to go by when traveling with your nicotine vape device. What you can bring, how much you can bring, and where you can pack it.
- Vape Juice – You can bring e-liquid on carry on or store the liquid in your checked luggage if you please. For your convenience, it’s always smart to make sure the e-liquid is properly secured and double wrapped in case of and leaking from e-liquid bottles. Clear bags are best and attempt to travel with plastic e-liquid bottles over glass when possible. The TSA allows for no more than 100mL of e-liquid to be carried on the plane.
- Mods – Any vape mods are required to travel on carry on only. Never put mods in your checked luggage.
- Vape Cart batteries – Carry on
- Battery chargers – Carry on
Here is an important guideline to take note of from the TSA:
"The FAA prohibits these devices in checked bags. Battery-powered E-cigarettes, vaporizers, vape pens, atomizers, and electronic nicotine delivery systems may only be carried in the aircraft cabin (in carry-on baggage or on your person). Check with your airline for additional restrictions. Remove all electronic cigarette and vaping devices from carry-on bags if checked at the gate or planeside."
TSA also notes: "You may travel with dry batteries (AA, AAA, C, and D) in your carry-on or checked baggage. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) prohibits loose lithium batteries from being transported in checked baggage."
How should you pack your vape mods?
Understanding how to pack your vape mods while traveling is important and can potentially save you a lot of time during screening at the airport.
First, make sure to separate all of your vape hardware and juice. This means e-liquid, batteries, and chargers should all have their own compartments.
Rechargeable vape batteries should be placed in carry on. Make sure to use a case to protect positive and negative terminals for extra safety. A battery case is your best bet for this. The case will prevent the lithium batteries from touching any other metal objects. Not to mention, this will keep your batteries nicely organized and easy to find.
Keep your mods and atomizers in a clear bag so it’s easy for TSA to screen the device quickly. Make sure your tanks are empty of any e-liquid before bringing them on your carry-on.
Other important vape traveling tips
Be patient and understand that not all TSA agents are familiar with vape devices. If you are questioned about your vape device or e-liquid, have patience and explain that you are carrying your vape mods with you and have followed all the proper safety protocols.
Make sure to do your own research for the particular airline you are traveling with. Although most airlines follow the regulatory instruction of the TSA there can always be slight variations or updates made at any time to vape traveling policies. The great thing is, most airlines will post these vape traveling policies and regulations directly on their website for review.
